Origin Story: In a couple sentences, how would you describe your path to becoming an investor?

I got a lucky break coming out of college, when I got a job working as an analyst at Insight Venture Partners. I had learned about VC when I took classes at MIT Sloan while in college. I loved the work as a VC at Insight, and I chose to make my career as a venture investors.

Investment Approach: What are the key factors you consider when evaluating a founding team?

We prioritize a wide range of characteristics, but the most important are purity of motivation, unique insight, first principles thinking, the founders' ability to work well together, and desire to stay the course.

What's your style and approach when it comes to working with founders post-investment? What are the characteristics of founders you've worked well with?

We work very closely with founders post-investment, and we apply a resource-intensive, hands-on approach via our Success Team. We work well with all types of founders, and we pride ourselves on being able to tailor our model to the specific needs of a founding team.

If I'm coming to pitch to you or your firm, what's the one piece of advice you'd give me?

We are a very data-driven firm, so you should have a strong handle on the key assumptions and metrics underlying your financial projections and business model.

How would you describe your own personal mission and values, and how do they impact the way you invest?

My personal values are consistent with our firm values and mission. We like to say that the purpose of our firm is to bring the invisible to life.

What do you like best about investing in NYC, and what’s your outlook on the future of NYC tech?

The future of NYC tech is very bright. I love the fact that the ecosystem is growing, it is diverse, and it is welcoming to founders and investors from a broad set of backgrounds.
