Questions & Answers

Origin Story: In a couple sentences, how would you describe your path to becoming an investor?

Over 17 years driving enterprise-level acquisition, investment and divestiture strategies for companies in the media and technology space, as well as 10 years in engineering, sales and marketing for mid-size and startup tech firms.  Investing enables leveraging the breadth of these experiences to focus on helping the next generation of early stage founders build and scale businesses.

Investment Approach: What are the key factors you consider when evaluating a founding team?

Balance of skills and experience, mission and vision, level of self-awareness

What's your style and approach when it comes to working with founders post-investment? What are the characteristics of founders you've worked well with?

We take a hands-on approach and will engage with founders who want and need operational help.  Founders who understand what their limitations are and leverage Oceans to extend their teams and fill gaps get the most benefits from our platform.

If I'm coming to pitch to you or your firm, what's the one piece of advice you'd give me?

Convey your vision, let us know where you want to get to so we can imagine the path along with you to realize the opportunity.

How would you describe your own personal mission and values, and how do they impact the way you invest?

Love to understand how ideas can deliver impact, particularly from new or different perspectives that can expand awareness. Impact can be narrow, does not need to be broad, as long as a real problem or pain point is being addressed and benefits delivered.  Look for conviction that we align with and can help to drive further, faster.
