Questions & Answers

Origin Story: In a couple sentences, how would you describe your path to becoming an investor?

I've spent my career scaling businesses from 0-1 and 1-10. Building a business is hard, even with capital and vision. I enjoy helping founders to answer hard questions and I see investing as my opportunity to give back to the community.

Investment Approach: What are the key factors you consider when evaluating a founding team?

1) Experience- have any of the founders successfully built a business before? 2) Do I vibe with the vision of the company and 3) Have they shown their ability to receive and implement feedback.

What's your style and approach when it comes to working with founders post-investment? What are the characteristics of founders you've worked well with?

For the most part, I remain hands off with the founders I work with. If they need help, they know that they can ask and I will dedicate the time to dive in. Honesty is the most important characteristic for me to work well with a founder. They need to be able to articulate where they are winning, where they are losing, where they need help.

If I'm coming to pitch to you or your firm, what's the one piece of advice you'd give me?

Don't just read a script. I'm going to ask hard questions... Be prepared to answer them. Take me through your macro view of your industry, how this fits in, and why you guys are going to crush it.

As an angel investor, how many deals do you aim to do each year?

5

How would you describe your own personal mission and values, and how do they impact the way you invest?

I'm passionate about the future of work and automation of back-office infrastructure. I value platforms over features. If you have a platform that improves the life of a business owner, I'm interested in learning more!

What do you like best about investing in NYC, and what’s your outlook on the future of NYC tech?

I believe that NYC is just getting started when it comes to tech. Amazing founders are coming out of the woodworks every day and the recent pandemic has created new opportunities for innovators of all kinds. Excited to see what the future brings.
